ECAs & Leadership

The first of my ECAs and the most important is probably public speaking in terms of competitive debating or doing MUNS. Winning many national level conferences and participations in international competitions, I have grown a lot in this aspect. It turned me from an introvert with minute english communication skills to a confident individual who could express themselves and intellectually defend a side. Moreover, Model UN taught me how to research and it gave me an idea of the current situation of the world in terms of economy, geopolitics, conflicts and other aspects. Most important of all, it taught me how to analyze these topics and to solve them formally. When I mean formally, I emphasize it. In Model UN, the resolution is a formal publishment immicking the real life draft resolution passed. It must be well thought, explained, and formal. Debating is similar in terms of the mechanisms you present, the structure of your speech and it also tests your ability to listen to others speak for a long time.

Secondly, I see myself as a leader. Both in terms of being Head Boy for my senior year in junior high school, and as a Class Representative [CR] my junior year in senior high school. Being a leader really tests your capability of handling personal problems with handling mass problems at the same time. Everyone relies on you and you have that added pressure to deliever. Whether it be volunteering or running events smoothly, you have to be omnipresent. Taking accountability is one of the hardest things especially when you face consequences when you on a personal level are not at fault, however, it showcases how real life is in reality. Importantly, it gives a message that you must also work towards estabilishing a civil environment around you.

Thirdly, I am really into music. I played the keyboard for over 5 years when I was recognized for singing well on the school bus randomly one day. It led me to singing songs and during that time an artist called 'John Rai' was on the uprise. I listened to his songs and it drove me to learn the guitar as well. Ever since then I have learnt countless songs and find myself heavily invested in music most of the times. I have won 1st runner-up in my inter-school singing competition and it has served as a morale boost. Now, almost performing in any opportunity that comes in my way, I find myself growing more and more.
